The Story of This Rug
Kazak rugs take their name from the Kazak region of the Caucasus; throughout the 19th century, they remained true to the geometric vocabulary of nomadic Turkmen and Caucasian weavers. The horizontal-panel garden composition around a central medallion combines Mamluk and Caucasian traditions. Afghan artisans continue this heritage using Ghazni wool and natural root dyes, creating a distinctive, durable texture with large knots and a high pile.
Why Choose a One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Afghan Rug
- Originality: There is only one of this rug; its knotting rhythm and dye batch can never be replicated.
- Durable natural dyes: Unlike synthetic aniline dyes, root dyes do not fade; they simply soften over time.
- Ghazni wool: Long-fiber, lanolin-rich wool from high-altitude sheep provides natural stain resistance and a silky sheen.
- Asymmetrical Persian knot: Finer detail resolution and sharper motif edges than the Turkish (Gördes) knot.
- Investment value: Genuine Afghan rugs dyed with natural plant dyes appreciate in value with use across generations.
Color and Design
The composition, framed in madder red, features a star medallion within an octagon at the center. Above and below it, horizontal garden panels with golden-yellow and indigo-blue grounds are divided by rows of miniature flowers and palmettes. A double border framed by a chain of geometric stars and rosettes completes the design; cream-colored fringe completes the classic Kazak silhouette.

Protect Its Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven creations made with natural fibers—which add value to your living space—for generations, a careful care routine is essential.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid spills, timing is critical. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth, blot the liquid gently from the surface without rubbing. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural direction in which the fibers lie). Rubbing can damage the shape of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use a vacuum cleaner with low suction. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance how natural yarns react to light and prevent uneven changes in color (fading), we recommend rotating your rug every 2 to 6 months.
Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Fine textures such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For a thorough clean, seek help only from professional rug care centers specializing in natural fibers.
