The Story of This Rug

The boteh motif in Central Asia is associated with the tulip bud or cypress tree; in Persian rug tradition, it symbolizes fertility and eternity. In the large-scale rugs produced by Ziegler & Co in Sultanabad in the 19th century, palmet and boteh together form a large, airy composition. Afghan artisans continue this heritage with knowledge of root dyes; the wool is treated with alum and iron mordants, dyed repeatedly in plant extracts, and softened by washing in sunlight and running water.

Why a Single-Piece Handwoven Afghan Rug

  1. Uniqueness: Only one of this rug exists; the same knot rhythm and dye batch cannot be repeated.
  2. Vegetal dye durability: Unlike synthetic aniline, root dyes do not fade; they only soften over time.
  3. Ghazni wool: Long-fiber, high-lanolin wool from high-altitude sheep; provides natural stain resistance and silky luster.
  4. Asymmetric Persian knot: Finer detail resolution and sharper motif edges compared to Turkish (Gördes) knots.
  5. Investment value: Genuine vegetal-dyed Afghan rugs gain value through generations of use.

Color and Pattern

Symmetrically arranged large palmet rosettes on a glacier gray-blue ground with large boteh (paisley) motifs on both sides; stylized lotus, leaf clusters, and curling branches fill the spaces between. Framed by a tile red border, cream-ground palmet detailing, and corner rosettes.

Care Recommendations

  • Clean with a brushless vacuum head on low power.
  • Blot stains immediately with a white cotton cloth; do not rub.
  • Rotate 180° every 6 months to distribute sun and traffic wear evenly.
  • Leave wet cleaning to a rug specialist experienced with vegetal dyes.

This rug is sold only once; no identical piece exists in any other home.

Protect Elegance
A delicate care routine should be adopted to preserve the original splendor and silky texture of handwoven and natural fiber Carpetdocia pieces that add value to your living space for generations.

Immediate Action and Liquid Contact
Timing is the most critical factor in case of possible liquid spills. Use a clean, slightly damp cloth to gently blot the liquid from the surface without rubbing. Always perform this action in the direction of the carpet’s nap (the natural direction of the fibers). Rubbing can damage the shape of delicate fibers like TENCEL™ and viscose. Stop the intervention immediately if you have any doubts.

Routine Care and Light Balance
Always prefer vacuum cleaners with low suction power in your weekly cleaning routine. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the reaction of natural fibers to light and prevent regional tone differences (fading), we recommend changing the orientation of your carpet every 2 to 6 months.

Expert Touch (Professional Cleaning)
Noble textures such as handwoven, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the silky shine and structural integrity of the carpet. For deep cleansing, support should be sought only from professional carpet care centers specialized in natural fibers.

Washing Instructions
Delicate pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their structure. (Only specific models clearly labeled "Washable" in their name can be washed in household machines on a low heat and delicate cycle.)
